Shear Outback Day and Evening Package

The Riverina

Overview

Shearers enjoy legendary status in Australia and links to Australia's vibrant and colourful shearing culture are prevalent in Australian contemporary life and language. Shear Outback is an innovative and exciting new interpretative centre devoted to these colourful characters of the bush, and follows the technology of "getting the wool" off - past, present, and future.

Visitors can get the feel of machine shears, take on Jackie Howe's unbeaten blade sheares record, learn about past and future shearing technologies, marvel at the weight and size of the giant merino fleece, hang out in a shearers' sling, explore the round up maze and see shearing demonstrations with our popular shearers three times daily.

The Shear Outback experience includes the splendid Hall of Fame, the interpretive centre museum, the Murray Downs Woolshed and outdoor art and exhibits.

At Shear Outback, you'll meet the shearers, shed hands, sheep and dogs who work in the shearing industry.

Continue the experience in the evening with a viewing of the spectacular Shear Strife Sound and Light Show. Sharpen those combs and cutters because as the shadows fall across the boards there's a riot brewing!

In this live and entertaining show, watch and learn of Australia's shearing history. Over the time shearers have battled for better conditions in 1891. Learn of the burning sheds in 1956 and see the tempers blaze over wide combs in 1982.

This is your opportunity to experience some of the great industrial disputes across our nation's history. Each story is of true grit and endurance. A great show for all of the family!
